Our church is currently planning to build on current work for Craigavon Food Bank by using our newly refurbished halls as a distribution centre for those needing emergency help in the local area. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out to those in need in our local community and we need some volunteers to help us with this work.
The Trussel Trust, the Christian Charity overseeing this work will have volunteers present to manage the food distribution and our role will be to welcome the visitors into the church coffee area and chat with them over a cup of tea/coffee while they wait for their food to be packed. All that you need to be able to do is be a good listener as visitors may often feel anxious or distressed because of their situation.
In September if the COVID restrictions allow this new distribution centre will operate on Tuesdays 2-4 pm and Thursdays 4-6 pm.
Behind the scenes the work will continue in the food bank warehouse at Carn, every Monday afternoon from 1-4 pm. Our church has a small team working here already but they will need more help in order to support the new distribution centre. This Isn’t difficult work but does involve some lifting – although it’s no worse than unpacking your weekly shopping from the supermarket.
This service is a lifeline to people in crisis and if you would be able to help us as a volunteer in either or both of these roles please contact Kirsty-Lee at Church Office (07564709099) if you think you could help.
There will be a meeting on Tuesday 31st August 2021 in church hall at 8pm so even if you are not sure, why not come along and find out more.
